Poetry for the Out of Work: Hireku

Traditional haiku consist of 17 syllables, in three phrases of 5, 7, and 5 respectively. I call my poems on employment “hirekus.”

I was inspired by reading a haiku on joblessness by Aravis Moore  from San Diego, California:

O, Craigslist, my dear.

9 an hour is no good

Benefits are nice.

Here is mine:

One page resume

Does not capture my essence

I dare two pages.

And another:

9 to 5 bored me

Til I lost the job last year.

I miss my commute.
